The meaning of group name is 'New Evolution of the 21st century'.
2NE1 belongs to YG Entertainment, and they have been called a ‘Female Big bang’.
They were introduced to the public in 2009 through “Lollipop” a collaborative with label mates Big Bang for moblie commercial that immediately topped all the digital charts. Officially they debuted with their debut single “Fire” in May 2009. Back than, they had huge revolutionised all the music style and fashion of Korean girls group. Unlike other just feminine style of Korean girls group, 2NE1 show off their charisma and confidence on the stage.
After they debut, 2NE1 has consistently keeping all the major music charts with each release.
Especially, they got "song of the year"awards twice from Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) with 'I don't care' in 2009 and 'I'm the best' in 2011.
In 2012, The New York Times named 2NE1's performance at the Prudential Center in New Jersey as one of the "Best Concerts of 2012"
On 21NOV 2013, They released a new song 'Missing you' and they still keep the top for 3 weeks.
